St. Augustine just appointed a new poet laureate: Ann Browning Masters. She succeeds the city’s previous (and first) poet laureate, Norma Sherry. As poet laureate, Browning Masters will attend official city events and read original poetry. A 12th-generation Floridian with a history of writing about the city she loves, Browning Masters says she is honored to be selected. “St. Augustine is my hometown,” she tells Jacksonville Today. “I love it dearly, and hope to save its stories in my poetry.”
