As the country celebrates its semiquincentennial, the nation’s 27th state reached a milestone birthday last week, too. (What’s the right gift for a 181-year-old?). In honor of the big 1-8-1, we’re sharing a few facts about the average Florida Man (and Woman).
Our Number of the Week is the median age of the people who live in the Jacksonville metro area: 39.3 years old.
39.3 years old
The median age among all Americans is 39.2, and though Florida as a whole leans a little older — 42.6 years — the Jacksonville metro area’s age is pretty similar to the nation’s as a whole. Broken down by local county, Nassau is our area’s oldest (Median: 46.5 years), and Duval is the youngest (Median: 36.9 years). And, those numbers are trending upward. The residents of Florida’s First Coast are getting older, according to the last five years of Census data.
Within the metro area, residents are somewhat evenly spread across various age groups. By a small margin, though, the age group with the most residents is the 30-34 years category.
