Legendary sculptor Augusta Savage was born right here in Green Cove Springs. This Black History Month, you don’t have to travel far to celebrate one of the most influential artists of the Harlem Renaissance whose story is part of our own Northeast Florida history. This community celebration honors Savage through live music and dancing, hands-on arts and crafts inspired by her work, face painting, food trucks and plenty of activities for children. The event is presented by Friends of Augusta Savage Arts & Community Center along with the city of Green Cove Springs and community partners, all working to celebrate the artist and the next generation she continues to inspire

Think you know your local Black history? Put your knowledge to the test at The Cookout: Black History Game Day at Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing Park, presented by Vibrant Places Collective, JaxParks, Molding Minds and The Ritz Theatre and Museum. This fun and friendly competition brings together Jeopardy, Family Feud, and “New School vs. Old School”-style battles, all centered on Jacksonville’s rich Black heritage. Hosted by Gene Dot Com from V101.5, the event has food trucks, youth activities, performances and games for all ages.

‘Lend Me a Soprano‘

The Amelia Community Theatre kicks off its 45th season with the comedy farce Lend Me a Soprano. Set backstage at the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, the play follows manager Lucille Wylie as she prepares for a one-night-only performance of Carmen starring a world-famous soprano. When the diva is delayed and her jealous husband arrives, everything unravels in a flurry of mistaken identities and romantic chaos. It’s fast, funny, and ultimately a sweet story about mentorship and finding your voice.
