A family fishing adventure in Ponte Vedra Beach; a celebration at Downtown Jacksonville’s Friendship Fountain; and a kickoff to mastering crochet in Fernandina Beach are What to Do this weekend in the Jacksonville area.

Family Seining
Saturday
GTM Research Reserve | Ponte Vedra Beach
If you’re looking for a Saturday morning plan that’s a bit different than the usual park run, seining is it. What is seining, you ask? Essentially, it’s an old-school fishing method where you drag a large net through the water to see what’s swimming beneath the surface. On the second Saturday of every month, the GTM Research Reserve hosts a family seining session at Guana Lake. (This session is about nature appreciation, not to keep what you catch.) You’ll head out with a naturalist to pull the nets and talk about what you find — usually a mix of fish, crabs and other marine life. And the research reserve provides all the gear, including waders and boots.
9 a.m.; 505 Guana River Road. Ponte Vedra Beach; Free to attend, but a $3 parking fee applies; Reservations required in advance to secure your spot; More info.

Second Saturday Jazz at the Fountain
Saturday
Friendship Fountain | Southbank
Second Saturday returns to Friendship Fountain this weekend with a night of jazz with the river and skyline as the backdrop. The J.L. Institute is providing the live music, which plays alongside the fountain’s displays . It’s so nice, you guys. For dinner, a few food trucks will be parked on site, and the Riverwalk Bar will be open for drinks. (Open container is allowed here.) All you need to bring is a chair or blanket and to find your spot on the grass. A simple way to relax on a Saturday evening Downtown.
7 p.m-9:30 p.m.; 1015 Museum Circle; This event is free and open to the public; More info.

Crochet-a-Long (6 week series)
Sunday
Story and Song Art Gallery | Fernandina Beach
Here’s one for if your New Year’s resolution is learning a new skill (or leaning hard into the grandma chic trend). This sunday, Eliza Young (aka CreativEliza) kicks off her six-week crochet series, aimed at getting you through the basics. The course covers all the essential techniques, and the goal is to have a finished lap blanket by the time the series wraps up. Cozy! It’s geared toward absolute beginners or any crocheter who just wants hands-on help and feedback. Beyond the crafting, the course is a chance to meet other local makers and learn in a social environment.
Noon-2 p.m.; 1430 Park Ave., Fernandina Beach; Tickets: $35. Tickets and more info.
