Family Seining

Saturday

GTM Research Reserve | Ponte Vedra Beach

If you’re looking for a Saturday morning plan that’s a bit different than the usual park run, seining is it. What is seining, you ask? Essentially, it’s an old-school fishing method where you drag a large net through the water to see what’s swimming beneath the surface. On the second Saturday of every month, the GTM Research Reserve hosts a family seining session at Guana Lake. (This session is about nature appreciation, not to keep what you catch.) You’ll head out with a naturalist to pull the nets and talk about what you find — usually a mix of fish, crabs and other marine life. And the research reserve provides all the gear, including waders and boots.

Second Saturday Jazz at the Fountain

Second Saturday returns to Friendship Fountain this weekend with a night of jazz with the river and skyline as the backdrop. The J.L. Institute is providing the live music, which plays alongside the fountain’s displays . It’s so nice, you guys. For dinner, a few food trucks will be parked on site, and the Riverwalk Bar will be open for drinks. (Open container is allowed here.) All you need to bring is a chair or blanket and to find your spot on the grass. A simple way to relax on a Saturday evening Downtown.

Crochet-a-Long (6 week series)

Sunday

Story and Song Art Gallery | Fernandina Beach

Here’s one for if your New Year’s resolution is learning a new skill (or leaning hard into the grandma chic trend). This sunday, Eliza Young (aka CreativEliza) kicks off her six-week crochet series, aimed at getting you through the basics. The course covers all the essential techniques, and the goal is to have a finished lap blanket by the time the series wraps up. Cozy! It’s geared toward absolute beginners or any crocheter who just wants hands-on help and feedback. Beyond the crafting, the course is a chance to meet other local makers and learn in a social environment.

Noon-2 p.m.; 1430 Park Ave., Fernandina Beach; Tickets: $35. Tickets and more info.
