A Jacksonville police officer has been arrested on charges of false imprisonment and stalking his former girlfriend, according to Sheriff T.K. Waters.
Claude Fleurimond, a three-year veteran of the force, was arrested Tuesday night and immediately resigned, the sheriff said.
Investigators received a tip from his former girlfriend, who said he had repeatedly stalked her over the past few months. She also said Fleurimond pulled her over in his police car in October, Waters said.
“Fleurimond actually conducted a traffic stop on his girlfriend in his marked JSO vehicle, using his police authority to detain his former girlfriend,” Waters said. “Fleurimond then questioned her about why she was no longer communicating with him.”
There is no evidence Fleurimond threatened the woman or placed her in his police car for questioning, Waters said. But pulling someone over “for no reason” is threatening enough, Waters said during a news conference.
Fleurimond was the sixth Sheriff’s Office employee arrested this year, Waters said.
