A concert by acclaimed ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro; the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Family Fall Day in Downtown Jacksonville; and a pilates class with puppies in Fernandina Beach are What to Do in the Jacksonville area this weekend.

Jake Shimabukuro

Friday

WJCT Soundstage | Downtown Jacksonville

Internationally acclaimed ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro will take the WJCT Soundstage for a special performance. I caught his show last time he was in town and it was really fun! Known for his innovative approach to the ukulele, Shimabukuro moves easily between jazz, rock, blues, bluegrass, folk, and classical styles, earning comparisons to guitar greats for his range and technical skill.

Fall Family Day

Saturday

MOCA Jacksonville | Downtown

MOCA Jax’s Fall Family Day is one of my son’s favorite events of the year, and it’s easy to see why. The museum fills with creative energy as families explore exhibitions, take part in hands-on artmaking, and enjoy live performances. With so many free activities designed for all ages, it’s a perfect way to spend the day surrounded by art, imagination, and a whole lot of community  spirit.

333 N. Laura St.; Free and open to the public; More info.

Puppies and Pilates

Saturday

Ascendance Pilates, Yoga & Barre | Fernandina Beach

Get a good workout while playing with puppies at Ascendance Pilates, Yoga & Barre. Heroic Tails Sanctuary will bring in adoptable pups for a feel-good Pilates class where you can stretch, move, and snuggle with furry friends who are looking for furever homes. This event is free, but donations are appreciated and help provide food, vaccines and vet care for the rescues.

1726 S. 8th St., Fernandina Beach; Free and open to the public; More info.
