A goth dance party in Murray Hill, a historical celebration in St. Augustine and a celebration of whales in Fernandina Beach are What to Do in the Jacksonville area this weekend.

Halloween Goth Night

Friday

The Walrus | Murray Hill

Goth Night just happens to fall on Halloween this Friday—and that’s reason enough to go all out. Head to The Walrus for a packed dance floor, live music and spooky go-go dancers. (I love this so much!) Bring your best look for the costume contest—there’s a cash prize for the winner. If I weren’t out trick-or-treating with my kid, THIS is the Halloween party I’d be attending.

Fort Mose First Harvest

Saturday

Fort Mose | St. Augustine

Celebrate history and culture at the Fort Mose First Harvest, a free event that brings to life the 18th century traditions of the first legally sanctioned free Black community in what would become the U.S. The day includes cooking demonstrations, tastings and a farmers market, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural fusion of African, Spanish and Native influences that defined the community’s early years. Reenactors in period dress will also recreate the sights and sounds of life at Fort Mose, from militia drills to demonstrations of traditional crafts and trades. It’s an opportunity to experience history where it happened and honor the resilience and creativity of the people who built the settlement.

15 Fort Mose Trail, St. Augustine; 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; Free and open to the public; More info.

Right Whale Festival

Saturday and Sunday

Main Beach Park | Fernandina Beach

The Right Whale Festival celebrates the annual return of endangered North Atlantic right whales to the warm coastal waters off Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, where they give birth to and nurse their young. With fewer than 370 right whales remaining in the wild, this family-friendly event raises awareness of the threats to right whales and how we can help in their recovery, with ocean-themed activities and educational exhibits. And with live music, food trucks, art and gifts for sale, why not make a day of it in Fernandina?

32 N. Fletcher Ave., Fernandina Beach; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday; Free and open to the public; More info.
