Crocheting Mathematics
The Jessie | Downtown Jacksonville
Who knew math could be this cozy? The needlework exhibition Crocheting Mathematics takes equations and theories out of the textbook and into the yarn arts, with hyperbolic geometry, fractals and other big ideas stitched into beautiful works of art. With works by Beyza Aslan, associate professor of mathematics at the University of North Florida, the art show is a treat for math nerds, makers, and anyone who loves unique art. The opening reception will have light bites and drinks. Sounds like a perfect Friday night to me.
40 E. Adams St.; Free and open to the public; More info.

Friday and Saturday
Aviles Street Festival
Multiple locations | Historic Downtown St. Augustine
Step back in time to 18th century St. Augustine at the Second Annual Aviles Street Festival, a celebration of Spanish Heritage Month on the nation’s oldest street. Explore museums, historic homes, and the courtyard of the St. Augustine Historical Society, all while savoring Spanish flavors from local favorites along the way.

Garden of Reading Literary Festival
Ravine Gardens State Park | Palatka
I’m especially excited about this one — books? In nature? Be still my heart! The Garden of Reading Literary Festival is making its debut at Palatka’s beautiful Ravine Gardens State Park. Readers of all ages can enjoy author talks, live readings, workshops, and even the park’s first-ever poetry slam. Kids will have plenty to do in the dedicated Kid Zone with crafts, puppet shows, book-making, and meet-and-greets with children’s authors. Food trucks will be on site, and you can browse vendor booths filled with books and more.
1600 Twigg St.; Entry to the festival is free with park admission; Admission: $2 per pedestrian (age 6 and up), $5 per vehicle (up to eight people), or $4 for a single-occupant vehicle. Florida State Park Annual Passes accepted; More info.
