A 14-year-old boy is in custody in Clay County after he called 911 from a church early Monday to say he had killed his parents in their Middleburg home, Sheriff Michelle Cook announced.
Cook said that when deputies arrived at the home in the area of Silver Point and County Road 220, they found 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandy Smith dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
The weapon, believed to belong to the couple, was found in the home, Cook said.
She said 14-year-old Trevor Lee left the gun in the home when he walked to a church about a mile away to call police just after midnight.
Cook said it appears Trevor Lee got into an argument with his parents Sunday night that ended in the shooting.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about Trevor Lee to call the Sheriff’s Office at 904-264-6512 or share a tip on Safer Watch.
