The St. Johns River Ferry will sail back into service this Friday, two weeks ahead of schedule.

Although the ferry Jean Ribault remained operable, the ramp structure needed significant repairs.

The ferry connects the north and south ends of State Road A1A between Mayport Village and Fort George Island. The closure meant drivers had to deal with a 24-mile detour during the closure.

The ramp repairs also allowed JTA to complete most of the Coast Guard-required maintenance originally set to be done next year. Less time will be needed for that maintenance, JTA says.
