Starting Monday, the city of St. Augustine will remove nine derelict boats from local waterways.
Contractor Flagship Towing will remove the vessels from Salt Run and the Matanzas River.

The project, which is expected to take two weeks, is funded by the Florida Inland Navigation District and the St. Augustine Port, Waterway and Beach District.
Once removed, the vessels will be moved and properly destroyed.
The removal of the sunken boats will make navigating waters safer and the improve the overall health of the region’s marine ecosystem, officials said.
