The Hagan Ace Hardware on Blanding Boulevard went up in flames about 6:30 p.m. Friday. Massive flames produced heavy smoke that could be seen miles away.

The fire, which closed off Blanding Blvd. for hours, left dozens of workers scrambling to find out where to show up for work.

Lageman told News4Jax the store is doing everything it can to help its 33 employees.

“This is the home base for a lot of our employees. So very emotional for them. This is their home,” Lageman said.

Now, those employees are finding new homes in the remaining Ace stores around Northeast Florida.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
