A Duval County school police officer has been arrested on charges of felony domestic battery by strangulation and false imprisonment, according to the district.
Kevens Louis, 30, was arrested late Sunday on the charges, which also include a third count of battery. He was released the next day on bail, according to jail records.
District officials released no other information about the incident. But the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrest report indicates something happened as Louis and a former romantic partner were at a New Kings Road home just before 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The two had just ended a 2-year-long relationship when he texted her to come there and get her belongings, the report said. When she got there, he kept trying to get her to come inside, but she refused.
The report also said that at one point while inside the home, she grabbed his gun “to use it as leverage to leave.” But he took it from her, then emptied it of ammunition. The woman told officers that she tried to “think of ways to escape,” then asked him to get her cellphone from her car.
When Louis went outside, she locked him out of the home, then ran out the back door and sought help from someone in a nearby home. The report is redacted in places, but does say that the woman had bruises on a leg and arm, plus some scratches.
“While the presumption of innocence applies, I am incredibly disappointed by these allegations as they fall short of the high standards required of our school police officers,” Duval Schools Police Chief Jackson Short said in a news release.
Louis, a four-year veteran of the school police, was not assigned to a particular school, the district said. He was stripped of all law enforcement authority after his arrest. His employment status will be addressed later, the district said.
