Three die in mobile home fire in East Palatka

Three people. including a 1-year-old child, are dead after a mobile home fire Monday morning in East Palatka, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

But three other family members survived, although they were badly burned, officials said.

Firefighters found the mobile home fully engulfed when they arrived on North Maryland Avenue just east of Putnam County Boulevard, and rescued six people from inside the burning structure, fire officials said.

Two of the dead victims are brothers, killed along with the toddler. A 7-year-old girl, 4-year-old boy and the mother of one of the children were sent to a hospital for treatment of burns, according to Jacksonville Today news partner News4Jax.

Fourteen units were called in to battle the blaze. One firefighter received minor injuries and is being treated.

No cause for the fire has been determined yet. The state Fire Marshals Office will investigate because of the deaths, officials said.
