Early, in-person voting has begun in parts of Northeast Florida in the special election to fill the seat of congressman Michael Waltz. Waltz resigned effective Monday, when he joined the incoming Trump administration as national security adviser.
Waltz represented District 6, which includes all of Flagler and Putnam counties, as well as parts of St. Johns, Lake, Marion, and Volusia counties.
On Nov. 25, after Waltz was named to the post, Gov. Ron DeSantis set a special election for the seat, with a primary to be held Jan. 28 and a general election April 1. A mandatory early voting period for the primary was set for Jan. 18 to 25.
Three Republicans and two Democrats qualified for the primaries in this race.
