The local nonprofit Cathedral Arts Project has selected Christopher E. Begley, principal of Samuel Wolfson School for Advanced Studies, to receive the first-ever Principal of the Arts Award. Students, teachers and district leaders surprised Begley at school Monday with a $1,500 check. The award, created with the school district, the Jacksonville Public Education Fund, and the University of North Florida, recognizes principals who are exceptionally committed to arts education. Begley was chosen for fostering a strong culture of arts at Wolfson, from purchasing new music equipment to removing lockers to make room for students’ artwork to be displayed.
