Jacksonville International Airport is adding an airline with flights to southern Connecticut.
Avelo Airlines will offer nonstop service between Jacksonville and Tweed-New Haven Airport beginning Feb. 14. The flights will operate Fridays and Mondays on Boeing 737 aircraft.
“Any day you can welcome a new airline to your community is a good one,” Mark VanLoh, CEO of the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, said in a news release.
Avelo founder and CEO Andrew Levy said the flights will link New England’s vast cultural attractions with the beaches of Northeast Florida.
Tweed-New Haven Airport is situated on Connecticut’s coast with access to 15 towns in the Greater New Haven area.
New Haven, best known as the home of Yale University, is the second-largest city in Connecticut
and part of the New York metropolitan area.
Avelo service
Avelo, formed in April 2021, serves 54 cities in 24 states and Puerto Rico, as well as three international destinations: Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. The airline flies primarily to underserved communities with smaller airports.
Avelo is offering an introductory fare on the flights between Jacksonville and New Haven starting at $48 one way. Flights must be booked by Dec. 16 for travel between Feb. 14 and March 3. Additional fees for carry-on and checked bags, assigned seats and other optional services may apply.
Flights can be booked at aveloair.com. Avenlo does not charge a fee to change or cancel flights.
