A recount has confirmed the result of a Fernandina Beach City Commission race that was too close to call on election night.

Genece Minshew has officially been elected to take the seat of existing Vice Mayor David Sturges.

Minshew will join the commission Tuesday after ousting Sturges by just 19 votes. More than 9,200 votes were cast in the Seat 2 race.

The Nassau County Canvassing Board conducted the tabulated recount this week, as required under Florida law when the candidates are within 0.5% of each other.
