Election Day results are in, and public defender Shayla Lee won a seat on the Duval County bench.
Lee will serve a six-year term as judge. She advanced from the four-candidate primary election in August and defeated opponent Matthew Lufrano by more than 50,000 votes.
County judges make decisions on criminal misdemeanors and civil cases. The criminal cases that Lee will oversee as judge carry sentences of up to one year in jail.
The race for county judge was reduced to two candidates after Andrew Bonderud and Marcus Isom were eliminated in the August primary. Between the remaining two candidates, Lufrano fundraised more money than Lee.
In other judicial decisions on Duval ballots, all of the judges who voters had the option of retaining or dismissing from their posts in the 5th District Court of Appeals will remain judges.
