The weekend is a busy time for The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach. Traffic is always heavy heading south of State Road A1A to the site.
On-site parking Friday and Saturday is sold out, but parking passes could still be available on The Players’ verified resale site. Locals also can ride bikes or golf carts and park free in Lot 4W.
If you’re coming from Downtown, shuttles are available from Hogan Street by the Marriott Jacksonville, Hyatt Regency Riverfront, and Southbank Hotel Riverwalk. Passes can be purchased at theplayers.com/parking.
The Players, one of golf’s biggest events, marks its 50th anniversary this year and 48 years since the PGA Tour made a deal to host the tournament in Ponte Vedra Beach.
Interest in golf is booming, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan told reporters this week. Tournaments are growing, and fans and players are younger, more diverse and more energized than ever.
He wants to harness that by making it easier to become a fan and easier to follow the sport.
“We just want to make sure we keep that momentum going. But, in a complex business, it does come back down — and it’s true in any sport — you’re only as strong as your fanbase, and you’re only as strong as your ability to grow that fanbase.”
With $25 million up for grabs, first place will take home $4.5 million and a huge bump to their player ranking.
