A new piece of art is on its way to a busy roundabout in St. Augustine.
The art doesn’t exist yet, but St. Augustine’s Public Art Committee is on the hunt for an artist or a team of artists to create an outdoor installation.
The city is looking to spruce up the roundabout at May Street and San Marco Avenue with an art piece that reflects the city’s diverse culture.
The recently modified roundabout is near the St. John’s County Library’s main branch and just a stone’s throw from State Road A1A and U.S. 1.
The submitted artwork plan must be able to withstand, per the city, “extreme weather conditions and heavy traffic” to ensure maintenance costs are minimal.
Artists have a $250,000 budget to work with to cover installation costs, artist expenses and other costs associated with the project.
Artists interested in applying for the project must submit a professional resume, images of their completed art installations and other documentation. The deadline to submit artwork is 5 p.m. April 1.
Once the submission period is over, the city’s Public Art Committee will select up to three finalists to present their plans at a public meeting in May. Click here for more information or to apply online.
Artists also can deliver submittals by mail to the City of St. Augustine, Attn: Purchasing, 75 King Street, 4th Floor, Lobby D, St. Augustine 32084.
