All 904? No more.
Starting today, anyone requesting a new phone number or an extra line in the Jacksonville area may be assigned the 324 area code instead, according to the state regulators at the Public Service Commission. The former 904-only area includes all or most of Duval, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Nassau, St. Johns, and Union counties.
The new area code was created because 904 was running out of phone numbers in this fast-growing northeast corner of Florida.
For existing 904 phone number holders, nothing is changing. And the new area code does not affect emergency or information numbers, so you can just dial 911, 211 or 411 without any area code.
What is new for everyone in the area is that they now have to dial the 9-0-4 area code even if they’re making a local call, so make sure all cell phone contacts are all stored with their full 10-digit number to avoid issues.
