Meetings about a major cleanup effort this spring at the Kerr-McGee Superfund Site in Jacksonville will be held next week.
The 31-acre site at Talleyrand Avenue is on the St. Johns River in the industrialized Port of Jacksonville.
Kerr-McGee and its predecessors made, packaged and distributed fertilizers and pesticides from 1893 until 1978, which left the soil and groundwater highly contaminated.
A two-year, $60 million cleanup of the superfund site is planned to start this year.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the property owner, Multistate Trust, will discuss air monitoring and other measures to keep cleanup crews and nearby residents safe.
Two virtual meetings are set for 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. In-person sessions will be held the next day at noon and 4:30 p.m. at Silkie’s Chicken & Champagne Bar on Walnut Street.
