A city program that helps homeowners pay for new roofs quickly shut off applications Tuesday after receiving its maximum number of applications

The city announced that the Home Roof Rehabilitation pilot program hit its limit within hours due to the small amount of funding available.

The program will help homeowners fund the replacement of their home’s roof, up to $14,999, in the form of a deferred payment loan, at 0% interest for up to five years. No monthly payments will be due, and the loan balance will decrease on a prorated basis if the property remains the applicant’s primary residence.

Applicants must own and occupy the property and earn 80% of or less than the median area income, which is $70,800 for a family of four or $56,650 for a household of two.

The application process will be reopened later as funding becomes available, city officials said.
