Jacksonville-based Sun-Ray Cinema is adding a location in Daytona Beach.
The theater says the movie house will have 10 screens and stadium seating with reclining seats. It is expected to open early next year.
The theater says its hopes the new location will make the business look more attractive to Jacksonville developers in hopes of adding a location at the Beaches or Mandarin.
SunRay also showed interest last summer in taking over the IMAX theater at World Golf Village.
Certain sections of World Golf Village became vacant as the World Golf Hall of Fame moved back to its original home in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The county is seeking ideas for the Hall of Fame property, the IMAX theater, the nearby PGA Tour Productions building and the space along South Legacy Trail.
Sun-Ray originally opened as the Riverside Theatre in 1927, according to the website cinematreasures.org. It was renamed 5 Points Theatre after a remodeling in 1949 but closed as as a movie theater in 1977.
After several other variations, it reopened as a movie theater in 2008 and was named Sun-Ray Cinema in 2011.
