Jacksonville Today Arts and Culture Editor Matt Shaw shares his arts and culture picks for the weekend.
Friday & Saturday
Beethoven, Schumann & Liebermann
Jacoby Symphony Hall | Downtown Jacksonville
On Friday and Saturday, Grammy-winning organist Paul Jacobs performs a new commissioned organ concerto composed by Lowell Liebermann, and the symphony explores works by 19th-century German composer Robert Shumann and — the man who needs no introduction, or first name — Beethoven. Both shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets and more information: jaxsymphony.org
Friday
Museum By Moonlight
MOSH | Southbank
The Museum of Science & History opens after hours (well, after museum hours) to host its second-ever Museum By Moonlight. A fundraiser for the more-than 75-year-old institution’s STEAM educational programs, maintenance of its permanent collection and more, the event features catering by Bread & Board and a DJ set by local personality Vic Micolucci. Museum By Moonlight is held from 7-10 p.m. Limited tickets are available. More information: themosh.org
Saturday
Brews & BBQ
James Weldon Johnson Park | Downtown Jacksonville
The festival formerly known as Bluegrass, Beer, and Barbecue returns with a truncated name, Brew & BBQ, but plenty to offer. Featuring a wide variety of beers, BBQ-themed food trucks and a stellar lineup of live music, including experimental-funk artist Soliloquy, jam act the Parker Urban Band, and the psychedelic bluegrass group Firewater Tent Revival. The event is held from 4-10 p.m., and it’s free to attend. More information: jamesweldonjohnsonpark.org
