Hurricane Idalia

For a second consecutive season, Florida took a direct hit from a major storm: Hurricane Idalia. But the season could have been much worse.

Despite widespread damage, only a handful of deaths have been linked to the hurricane, a sizable contrast to Hurricane Ian.

Duval Schools will remain closed Thursday. Clay County and St. Johns County schools plan to return to class.

Although Hurricane Idalia was causing limited damage Wednesday in Northeast Florida, power outages were spreading across the region.

Hurricane Idalia made landfall about 7:45 a.m Wednesday near Keaton Beach. Tropical storm winds were expected to hit Jacksonville later in the morning.
