Schools close as Hurricane Milton approaches

Hurricane Milton is already shutting down schools and businesses in Northeast Florida.

Duval and St. Johns County school districts announced they will close Wednesday through Friday. All school activities, including athletics and after-school programs, are canceled.

Clay and Nassau County schools will close Wednesday and Thursday.

Elsewhere:

  • Nova Southeastern University: The university will close from 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
  • Florida State College at Jacksonville: All classes and activities are canceled from Wednesday through Friday.

  • University of North Florida: Classes and events are canceled Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Edward Waters University: All classes, including online sessions, will be canceled from 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Jacksonville University: All classes and events are canceled Wednesday and Thursday. Classes will be virtual on Friday.
  • Courts: The Duval County Courthouse and Clerk of Courts offices will be closed Wednesday through Friday. All courthouses in the 7th Judicial Circuit, serving Flagler, Putnam, St. Johns and Volusia counties, will close Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Council on Aging: Sunshine Bus public transportation and Paratransit transportation services will close Wednesday and Thursday. All senior centers and facilities also will close.
