Hundreds of kittens land at Jax Humane Society

The Jacksonville Humane Society has received hundreds of kittens this year — most of them in the past month — and the organization is asking for help in caring for the fur babies.

A total of 407 kittens have wound up at the Humane Society in 2024, including 236 in the last 30 days, the organization said Thursday.

The Humane Society said the surge is due to the start of feline mating season, which typically runs from April to October in Jacksonville. 

To help, people can foster the animals until they are 8 weeks old, adopt them or donate supplies.

The Humane Society said it will pay for all medical care, food and other supplies for people who foster kittens.

If you would like to donate supplies, there is an Amazon wish list where you can pick out items and have them shipped to the shelter.

The Jax Humane Society adoption center is open at 8464 Beach Blvd. from noon to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends.
