While St. Augustine works out how to make Nights of Lights a smoother operation this holiday season, the city will host a handful of public workshops where business owners and residents can share their thoughts.
The workshops are part of the city’s efforts to find solutions for the traffic gridlock and overcrowding St. Augustine faced during the 2024-25 event.
During the planning process for the workshops, City Manager David Birchim said “part of that effort requires a robust public engagement process.”
The sessions will start at 9 a.m. Tuesday with a workshop for residents. That will be followed by a 1 p.m. workshop for business owners on Thursday.
Two more workshops are scheduled the following week: one for residents at 9 a.m. May 27 and another for business owners at 1 p.m. May 29.
The public workshops will conclude with a workshop for both business owners and residents from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 10.
Rather than a typical city meeting, the workshops are planned to be more like town halls, where attendees can speak directly with city staff.
“These meetings really are for anyone to come out, give us their thoughts, vent their frustrations,” City Manager David Birchim said during a recent City Commission meeting. “If they have any ideas or suggestions to make improvements, we’re all ears.”
Once all of the workshops are concluded, city staff will prepare a report on what residents shared for the City Commission.

All meetings will be held in the Alcazar Room of City Hall, located at 75 King St.
