A St. Johns County deputy has been placed on administrative leave after a public comment on a social media site sparked an internal investigation, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday.

The investigation comes after Cpl. Gregory Suchy posted a comment underneath an Instagram video that shows what appears to be a man who is homeless throwing a rock at a vehicle. The comment read: “We need like a 3 day open season on the homeless. No bag limit.”

“Due to the concerning nature of these comments (which are disturbing and not a reflection of SJSO values), the Internal Affairs Unit was requested to handle this investigation,” an Sheriff’s Office spokesman told News4Jax.

Officials said Suchy will remain on administrative leave during the investigation and is not engaged with the public.

News4Jax has reached out to Suchy several times for comment. We’re still waiting to hear back.
