Honoring Joan Mitchell, Nature Re: Wired, Spectral Subjects

Museum of Contemporary Art | Downtown Jacksonville

The exhibitions at MOCA Jacksonville include Spectral Subjects, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s interactive Project Atrium installation; UNF student artist-in-residence Dustin Sims’ Nature Re: Wired; and a sampling of the work of the influential abstract painter Joan Mitchell. The museum is open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. all weekend. Admission is free on Saturdays. And while you’re there, stop by the lobby for a drink from one of our favorite local coffee shops, Setlan. Drawn Together: Norman Studios Movie Posters

Cummer Museum & Gardens | Riverside 

Currently on view at the Cummer: Drawn Together pairs pieces from the museum’s formidable permanent collection with the artists’ smaller study drawings to explore the process, commitment and conceptualization behind some of the museum’s masterpieces. Also now on view at the museum: a collection of early-20th century movie posters made to promote films produced at Jacksonville’s Norman Studios, which is remembered for making a string of silent movies starring Black actors between 1920 and 1928, including several filmed at the Arlington property. On Saturday, the Cummer celebrates Free First Saturday, offering free admission from 4-9 p.m. More info

Warehouse Studios Swap Meet 

Warehouse Studios | San Marco

Long-running local music production studio and practice space Warehouse Studios has hosted rehearsals and recording sessions for generations of upstart Duval bands. On Saturday, a lineup of some of the emerging area acts perform at the Warehouse Studios Swap Meet. In addition to the concert, the swap meet portion of the programming encourages musicians, visual artists and record collectors to bring their gear, art and vinyl to trade and sell. Event starts at noon at the studios at 2071 Emerson St. It’s free to attend. Lineup and more info.
