Adams and Forsyth streets in Downtown Jacksonville will begin resurfacing as soon as this week, a step toward returning the two one-way thoroughfares to two-way traffic.
Two-way travel will have many benefits, the city says: economic growth, more retail business, higher property values, walkability, pedestrian safety and more efficient use of on-street parking and rideshare services.

The two-way traffic is expected to return over the summer.
The resurfacing on Adams and Forsyth will run four blocks east of Main Street to Liberty Street and seven blocks west to Jefferson Street.
The resurfacing work includes two-way conversions, signals, striping, sidewalk expansion and parking kiosks. The work will be followed by sidewalk widening, tree planting and enhanced streetscapes, the Downtown Investment Authority says.
Money for the project comes from dedicated tax increment funding from the DIA.
