A majority of people think the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is doing a good job, according to a survey the department conducted.
Nearly 90% feel safe in their neighborhood, but half feel the department needs more officers. And more than half of Black respondents said they feared being victims of police brutality, a 10% drop from the last survey two years ago.
An outside firm conducted the phone survey in May. It included 600 people in all six police zones. Â
Overall, more than half of respondents believe that the Sheriff’s Office does a good job investigating its own officer-involved shootings. Twenty-two percent disagree.
Gun violence was the public safety issue that concerned people the most, followed by illegal drug use. The full survey can be found on the transparency.jaxsheriff.org website.Â
