Applications are now open for anyone interested in being a member of the mayor’s inaugural LGBTQ+ Advisory Board.
The 11-member advisory board will act as a liaison between city officials and the LGBTQ+ community.
Deegan announced the new board during her Pride Month event June 28 at City Hall. She thanked those members of the LGBTQ+ community for their courage, resilience and unwavering spirit.
“You inspire us all to be better, to do better, and to never stop striving for a world where everyone can live authentically and without fear,” Deegan said. “To do that, I am going to need your voices at the table. I’m going to need a direct line to the LGBTQ community to make this possible.”
City officials said the criteria for serving should include an expertise in understanding the issues and affairs of the LGBTQ+ community and a diversity of background — a mix of community, business, faith and academic leaders. Applicants also must have a “passion to serve in the community” and must live in, or have a significant interest in, Duval County.
The application deadline is Aug. 9.
