Representatives with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development presented the Jacksonville Housing Authority with a check Wednesday for $2.3 million.
The money will go toward helping 330 local families in the workforce through the Jobs Plus Initiative Program, which helps support local families in many ways, News4Jax reported.
For example, the program helps families with other expenses and needs so they can focus on workforce training and education.
City leaders said that with Jacksonville growing so much, workforce development needs to stay a priority, News4Jax reported. This is another way to help people while also meeting that goal, they said.
A young woman who participated in the Jobs Plus program shared her story Wednesday, saying she is now a certified nursing assistant and is working toward transitioning out of public housing.
“It feels good,” Lineshia Bryant said. “Being that I got to CNA motivated me to go into the other program for school to just provide a better life for my kids, so it’s very satisfying.”
A representative with the Jobs Plus Program said recruiters will be actively working to connect with people who can use the money.
