Hurricane season starts in a few weeks, and officials say now is the time to get prepared. To help, the city of Jacksonville is holding its first-ever JaxReady Fest.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Chief Keith Powers says the event includes free informational sessions with experts and interactive events to learn lifesaving skills.
“It’s just a reminder we need to be prepared for hurricane season and be prepared for this severe weather, so if you get a chance attend Jax Ready Fest this weekend,” Powers said.
The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Prime Osborn Convention Center.
People will have the opportunity to:
- Engage with over 60 agencies and experts, gaining insights into their roles in
the community. - Participate in hands-on demonstrations and learn essential skills.
- Explore interactive exhibits featuring emergency communication technologies and disaster
response equipment. - Attend workshops covering topics such as severe weather safety, Narcan
administration and home emergency planning. - Engage in fun activities for all ages, including scavenger hunts, preparedness games and
giveaways.
JEA is a sponsor of the event, which is free to the public.
