As part of efforts to make the local government more transparent, St. Johns County is launching SJC 101, a new citizens academy. SJC 101 will kick off next month with a four-class pilot program.
The program aims to inform residents about what the county government’s different departments do and to develop potential new leaders to serve on advisory boards and elsewhere within St. Johns County.
SJC 101’s pilot program is open to the first 20 applicants. The four classes are scheduled for:
- 6-9 p.m. May 23 at the St. Johns County Public Works Department.
- 9:30-10:30 a.m. or 2-3 p.m. May 30 at the St. Johns County Emergency Management Department.
- Noon-3 p.m. June 6 at the St. Johns County Fire Rescue Department.
- Noon-3 p.m. June 20 at the St. Johns County Utility Department.
If the pilot program is successful, St. Johns County intends to expand the program next year.
