Corrections officer accused of domestic battery

A Jacksonville corrections officer was arrested early Friday on a charge of domestic battery.

Romeo Achilles Kei was jailed on the misdemeanor charge after a fight with a family member. He has been placed on administrative leave and was relieved of his duties at the jail, Sheriff T.K. Waters said.

Kei was the first Sheriff’s Office employee arrested this year. Eight patrol and corrections officers were arrested last year.

Kei and an unidentified family member fought about 11 p.m. Thursday. Both had visible injuries when police officers arrived, Waters said.

“Kei and this family member both admitted that they engaged in a mutual physical fight, although each claimed that the other had been the initial aggressor,” Waters said. “Because both Kei and this family member had visible injuries, and officers were unable to determine who initiated that violence, both Key and this family member were arrested for domestic battery.”

The Sheriff’s Office hired Kei in July 2021. He has been placed on leave and is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, Waters said.
