St. Augustine is developing a plan to address unsheltered homeless people, and officials want help from the public.
Five meetings are scheduled next week to get ideas from residents, business owners and service providers.
City Code Enforcement Manager Barry Fox is the city’s liaison for the initiative and will give a presentation about current efforts to help the homeless, as well as answer questions.
The public meetings will be:
- 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Augustine Yacht Club on Ocean Vista Avenue.
- 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Galimore Community Center on Riberia Street.
- 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Thursday at The Waterworks on San Marco Avenue.
An online survey also has been set up at surveymonkey.com/r/StAugHomeless.
The city is working with the Florida Housing Coalition and St. Johns County Continuum of Care to gather information and suggestions on homelessness. Results from the community meetings and the survey will be compiled into a comprehensive strategic plan, then the city will seek funding sources, officials said.
