The public will have a chance to weigh in on a planned disc golf course alongside the St. Johns Golf Club in St. Augustine.

A public meeting is set for 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at the St. Johns County Fairgrounds, on Florida 207 in Elkton. County Parks and Recreation staff will answer questions and share details about the proposed 18-hole disc golf course.

Disc golf is a sport that lets participants target steel mesh baskets with flying discs, with a number of courses already operating in St. Johns County, including a public park at the St. Johns County Fairgrounds. In this case, the proposed disc golf course would be next to St. Johns Golf Club in Elkton.

County officials said the disc course would have 18 playable holes, but each hole would have two tees and two baskets so someone could actually play up to 72 different options.

“The idea for an additional disc golf course in St. Johns County has been discussed for years due to its growing popularity,” county officials said in a statement.

The St. Johns County commissioners have allocated $150,000 for the new course, but no construction funding has been assigned so far as it remains in the design phase. No illustrations or layouts are available yet.

Plans are to add $700,000 for construction in fiscal 2024, officials said.

The new course would be free to use when it opens.

An earlier version of this story stated an incorrect location for the disc golf course.
