The Jacksonville Transportation Authority is launching a new version of their smartphone application MyJTA on Monday, and with it comes free rides for residents.
From Oct. 24-31, all JTA customers can ride city bus routes, the First Coast Flyer and the St. Johns River Ferry for free as part of a promotion celebrating the app’s launch.
Anyone who downloads the MyJTA app and creates a JTA account during that week will get a free pass for JTA bus routes and the First Coast Flyer that lasts through the entire month of November.
MyJTA can be downloaded for free starting on Sunday from the Apple App or Google Play stores.
The new version is meant to replace the old MyJTA application as well as the JTA See & Say mobile app, and Nextbus mobile app.
MyJTA currently runs on software developed by Passport, which goes offline Dec. 31. The new application uses Token Transit software.
New functions include service alerts and real-time passenger information. In a news release Wednesday, JTA said future updates will add scheduling for ReadiRide, JTA Express Select and the city’s paratransit services for the disabled, Connexion and Connexion Plus.
In-app ticket purchases and directions to an input destination are features that remain.
